eWiz License

eWiz is source-available. Use the code however you like; publishing a copy of the app or this site comes with a few conditions, set out below. The source is on GitHub for the app and this website.

Copyright (c) 2026 Nischal Dahal

You may do whatever you want with the eWiz source code and other source files in this repository, which holds the eWiz website and the eWiz update feed (from here on referred to as the "eWiz Source"), with the following restrictions:

  • If you publish any work derived from the eWiz Source, you must make it apparent in some way that it is derived from the eWiz Source.
  • If you have created an executable program, website or online service (from here on called "Your Program") built or compiled from some source code and/or other source files (from here on called "Your Source"), and if Your Source includes files or source code copied or derived from the eWiz Source, then you may only publish Your Program under the following conditions. For a website or online service, publishing means making it available to anyone other than yourself.
    • Your Program does not contain any malware or hidden malicious content.
    • You may not charge users money for Your Program, and Your Source must contain the monetization systems present in the eWiz Source, including the license key, checkout and payment systems, without any alterations, and all of these systems must be active and working as intended in Your Program, paying the original author. That is unless Your Source features substantial improvements or additions to the eWiz Source, such that Your Source should be considered its own, derivative work, separate from the eWiz Source.
    • You may not publish Your Program under the name "eWiz", or under a name or with an icon so similar that users could mistake it for eWiz.

Notes on the eWiz License

The eWiz License has two goals:

  1. To stop people with bad intentions, or people out for a quick buck, from publishing sites or apps based on eWiz: a copy of the eWiz website that hands out malware in place of the real download, or one that sells eWiz licenses while someone other than the author gets paid.
  2. To let everyone else do anything they like with the eWiz source code: reuse it in their own free or paid projects, write bug fixes and improvements to eWiz and publish them, or make a substantial improvement to eWiz and charge for that improved version or release it for free.

The license is meant to be open source in spirit, with protections against bad actors now that eWiz is a paid app. Note that there are no restrictions at all on how you use the source code, only on publishing programs, websites or services built from it.

eWiz is "source-available", not open source by the OSI definition, because of the publishing restrictions above.

Buying eWiz buys a license key for the eWiz app; it does not change these terms, which govern the source code.

The eWiz app's own repository carries the same license, worded for the Mac app. Files in this repository that carry their own license notice, such as the generated Cloudflare type definitions, stay under that notice.
